Be sure to capture your pet in good lighting and in an interesting pose. Take lots of pictures and pay close attention to the areas of focus, particularly the eyes. Try not to use a camera mounted flash as it may cause that terrible red-eye to appear. This is a free photo contest and I know you’re using a digital camera. To support Spay Day, The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International host the Spay Day Online Pet Photo Contest, presented by VISA and Zazzle—a great opportunity to celebrate our pets, raise funds for spaying and neutering, and win some great prizes. The free photo contest will use a panel of professional judges will pick a Grand Prize Winner, 10 Runners Up, and 25 Finalists based on the quality of your photos and how well your respond to a few simple questions that reveal your pet’s personality.

The Fantasy Faire Photo Competitions provide an interesting and perhaps permanent alteration to photo contests. Fantasy Faire 2009 is hosting a photo competition with photography originating in SIMs. Think about those ramifications. But only for a short while. The Children’s Eye Foundation seeks to raise the awareness of infant eye diseases and bridge the gap between those diseases and the doctors that are available to treat the affected children. Their free photo contest asks the photographer to “seek beauty” – whatever that may be. As for the prizes, the 12 entries with the most votes will receive a digital camera and the winning submissions will be used to develop the 2010 “I Care for Eye Care” calendar.
